Vata-Type Schizophrenia

When vata affects majja dhatu, especially in the frontal area of the brain, a person may develop schizophrenia. In vata-type schizophrenia, the person is anxious, anguished, and hyperactive. Hallucinations are present, especially auditory or olfactory hallucinations. This condition represents a severe disturbance of majja dhatu function in the seat of consciousness.
