Kalyanaka Ghrita — Overview

Kalyanaka Ghrita is a classical medicated ghee whose name means 'auspicious'. It uses 22 herbs in the Kalka including Triphala, Indravaruni, Devadaru, Elavaluka, two types of Sariba, Haridra, Daruharidra, Saliparni, Prisniparni, Priyangu, Tagara, Brihati, Kushta, Manjishta, Nagakesara, Dadima, Vidanga, Talisapatra, Ela, Malati, Utpala, Danti, Padmaka and Chandana. These are cooked into ghee with their own Kashaya.

Its indications are broad and include Pandu (anemia), Kushta (skin diseases), Visha (poisoning), Sosha (wasting), Meha (urinary disorders), Moha, Jwara (fever), Garavisha (cumulative poisoning), Sukra Kshaya and Artava Kshaya (male and female infertility), as well as disturbances of speech, memory and intellect. The text declares it the best formulation for Pumsavana karma — the pre-natal rite aimed at ensuring a healthy child.
