Overview

Musk Rose is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for heart disease. Kunja (Rosa moschata) is found in mountainous regions of Western India. It is a climbing rose with clusters of fragrant white flowers. The flower fragrance is musky, hence the name. It grows well at higher altitudes in the Himalayan region (22 feet or more). Its petals are used in similar ways to other roses. Verse: 14-15.

According to Ayurvedic pharmacology, Musk Rose has specific properties that make it valuable for addressing heart disease:

  • Potency (Virya): Sheeta (cold)
  • Post-digestive (Vipaka): Madhura (sweet)

  • Qualities (Guna): Laghu (light), Snigdha (unctuous)
