Overview

Gisekia is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for urinary disorders. Gisekia (Pashanabhedi variety) is mentioned toward the end of the Karpuradi Varga. The plant is found in dry regions of India. It is a small herb with fleshy leaves. The plant contains oxalic acid and is used in urinary disorders as a lithotriptic (stone-breaking agent). It has bitter and astringent taste with cooling potency.
