Overview
Coral is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for heart disease. Pravala (Red Coral) is a marine organism (actually the skeleton of coral polyps) considered a gem in Ayurveda. Pravala Bhasma and Pravala Pishti are important preparations. They are used in cough, Pitta disorders, eye diseases, heart weakness, and as a calcium supplement. Coral is cooling and strengthening. The best coral is deep red, smooth, and heavy. Verses: 86-88.

According to Ayurvedic pharmacology, Coral has specific properties that make it valuable for addressing heart disease:
- Potency (Virya): Sheeta (cold)
- Post-digestive (Vipaka): Madhura (sweet)
- Taste (Rasa): Madhura (sweet), Kashaya (astringent)
- Qualities (Guna): Laghu (light), Snigdha (unctuous)
