Apara Ojas

The grosser, circulating form of ojas, about a half-handful in volume, distributed throughout the body to sustain immunity and vitality.

Apara Ojas: The Raw, Mobile Essence

Apara ojas is the inferior or unprocessed form of ojas, measured as half an anjali — the size of an individual's cupped hand. It is mobile and moves throughout the body, whereas para ojas remains in the heart. The moment a red blood cell is born, it is carried through the body by prana together with apara ojas.

The function of apara ojas depends upon para ojas: if the heart stops, apara ojas stops flowing, and this stagnation of ojas is death. Apara ojas represents the flow of "what is," and when one surrenders to this moment, apara ojas is transformed into para ojas.
