What is Gems — Pearl (Mukta / Moti / मुक्ता)?

Mukta (Pearl) is one of the most important gems in Ayurvedic therapeutics. Mukta Bhasma (pearl ash) and Mukta Pishti (pearl ground with rose water) are widely used preparations. Pearl is cooling and indicated in burning sensation, Pitta disorders, eye diseases, heart diseases, and as a calcium supplement. The text describes 8 sources of pearls — from oysters (best), conch shells, elephant head, snake hood, bamboo, boar tusk, fish head, and clouds. Oyster pearls are the only medicinally useful ones. Good pearls are white, lustrous, round, and heavy. Verses: 80-85.

Pearl – Ayurvedic Healing Properties

Pearl is an organic product from the mother-of-pearl (oyster). It contains calcium carbonate and has a cooling effect and a calming, healing vibration. Pearl has anti-pitta properties. It also purifies the blood.

In its purified ash form, pearl is used internally for stomach and inflammatory intestinal diseases. It may be employed in the treatment of hepatitis and gallstones. A person who is afflicted with biliary vomiting may be effectively treated with pearl-ash.

Pearl is a hemostatic. It is therefore used to treat disorders such as bleeding from the gums, vomiting with bleeding, bleeding through sputum or bleeding piles.

Pearl has strengthening qualities and promotes vigor and vitality.

Elements: Water, Air and Earth.

Preparation: Four or five small pearls should be placed in a glass of water and allowed to stand overnight. This pearl-water should be taken as a tonic the next day. It will alleviate a burning sensation of the eyes and also burning urine. Pearl-water also acts as a natural antacid and helps acute inflammatory conditions.

How to wear: Should be worn on the right ring-finger in a silver ring.
