Overview

Dronapushpi is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for parasites and worms. Dronapushpi (Leucas cephalotes) is an erect annual herb found commonly across India. Its name comes from the Drona-shaped (cup-shaped) inflorescence. The plant has strong aromatic smell. It is used in fevers, coughs, worm infestations, and inflammatory conditions. The juice of leaves is used as nasal drops for headache. It is widely used in folk medicine across India. The plant grows 1-3 feet tall with square stems and opposite leaves. Dose: Swarasa 2-4 tola. Verse: 271-274.

How Dronapushpi Helps with Parasites and Worms

According to Ayurvedic pharmacology, Dronapushpi has specific properties that make it valuable for addressing parasites and worms:

  • Potency (Virya): Ushna (hot)
  • Post-digestive (Vipaka): Katu (pungent)
  • Taste (Rasa): Tikta (bitter), Katu (pungent)
  • Qualities (Guna): Laghu (light), Ruksha (dry)

Safety & Precautions

Our sources record no specific contraindications, drug interactions or overdose signs for Dronapushpi. That is an absence of data, not proof of safety, so keep use short and supervised.

Its properties point to who should be careful. It is heating (Ushna Virya), dry (Ruksha) and pungent after digestion. In Ayurvedic terms, that profile can aggravate Pitta (heat) and Vata (dryness) when taken in excess. If you run hot, have acidity, or tend to dryness, ask a practitioner first.

Fever, jaundice and suspected worm infection all need a proper diagnosis. Use Dronapushpi alongside medical care, not instead of it, and avoid it in pregnancy, while nursing and in young children unless a qualified practitioner advises otherwise.
