Suchimukha Rasa

A topical mercurial preparation applied at the Brahmarandhra (scalp) for insanity, fever, poisoning and urinary disorders.

Suchimukha Rasa — Overview

Suchimukha Rasa is a unique mercurial preparation used as a topical remedy for serious conditions including insanity (Unmada), fever, tridoshic imbalance (Sannipata), poisoning, urinary/diabetic disorders, and tetanus (Dhanurvata). It contains Suta (Parada), Gandhaka, Talaka, Manahshila, Talibhava (Makshika), Tuttha, Jambalam (Jaipala), Visha (Vatsanabhi), Tankana, and Katphala in equal parts.

The drugs are pounded with Sarpa Pitta (snake bile juice) and preserved in a glass jar. Unlike typical internal medications, this preparation is applied externally at the Brahmarandhra (crown of the scalp) after making a small incision, in a dose of one Gunja.
