Maha Khandava Choorna — Overview

Maha Khandava Choorna is a richly aromatic appetizer and cardiac tonic. Its ingredients include Maricha, Nagakesara, Talisa, Pancha Lavana (five salts) — 1 part each; Pippali moola, Chitraka, cinnamon, Pippali, tamarind and Jeeraka — 2 parts each; Dhanyaka, Amlavetasa, Sunthi, Brihat Ela, Badara, Ajamoda and Mustha — 3 parts each; pomegranate rind in half the quantity of the above and sugar in equal quantity.

Its actions include Rochaka (appetizer), Agni Deepaka (kindling digestive fire) and Hridya (cardiac tonic). Indications include cough, diarrhea, heart disease, diseases of the throat, stomach and mouth, gastroenteritis (Visuchika), bloating, hemorrhoids, abdominal tumors, worms, vomiting and the five types of asthma.
