Melons — Incompatible Foods

Do not eat melons with:

  • Grains
  • Starch
  • Fried foods
  • Dairy products

Melon: Ayurvedic Properties and Uses

Melons are sweet and cooling with a sweet vipak. They are watery, unctuous and heavy to digest. They calm vata and pitta, and may provoke kapha. Most melons have similar actions. They tend to have a diuretic action and to be an aphrodisiac.

  • Burning sensations (excess pitta): Eat melon to alleviate burning sensations.
  • Rashes: Eat melon and rub the rind over the skin for some relief.
  • Acne: Rub the inner skin of melon rind on the skin at bedtime and leave on overnight. Also makes the skin soft.
  • Burning urination, cystitis and urethritis: Eat melon with a pinch of coriander powder sprinkled on it.
  • Bleeding gums: Eat melon, chewing it slowly.
