Double-Arrowed Attention
A meditative practice of simultaneously observing the object and the observer, producing witnessing that protects ojas, tejas, and prana.
The Practice of Witnessing
Ayurveda says every breath, every moment, and every event should be met with total awareness. When listening to someone, at the same time listen to the listener. When looking at an object, at the same moment look at the looker.
When you look outside, one arrow goes out. At the same time, a second arrow goes into the heart to look at the looker. This is called double-arrowed attention. In double-arrowed attention, a third phenomenon happens, which is called witnessing. If you remain in witnessing, you will never get hurt.
This flame of witnessing attention will burn and heal the memories of parents' illnesses, past life hurt, and hurt from this life. Take responsibility, sit, and meditate. Unless you open your heart and jump into the inner abyss, you will not become enlightened. Ultimately, you have to knock on your own door and come back to yourself — love is within you, God is within you.
