Vikriti

The present state of the three doshas which may differ from one's prakruti due to diet, lifestyle, emotions, age, and environment

Vikruti — Present State of Imbalance

Vikruti reveals the present state of the three doshas. If the present state of the doshas is the same as prakruti, that person is balanced and healthy. In a person of excellent health, the proportions of vikruti will be the same as prakruti.

More commonly, there will be a difference, for vikruti reflects any aspects of diet, lifestyle, emotions, age, and environment that are not in harmony with one's prakruti. An Ayurvedic physician can establish this difference through procedures including taking a life history, analyzing the face and tongue, and taking the pulse.

It is this difference between prakruti and vikruti that provides the Ayurvedic physician with precise information to formulate a program for restoring health. No matter what the constitution, it is possible to achieve optimal health through proper diet, cooking methods, lifestyle, and an attitude toward life that specifically suits each individual.
