Pineapple: Ayurvedic Properties and Uses (continued)

Eat pineapple with caution as it can cause heaviness of the tongue. Never eat pineapple in the early morning on an empty stomach as it will upset the stomach and cause acidity. Never eat dairy or drink milk within two to three hours before or after eating pineapples. Pregnant women should never eat unripe pineapple, as it may induce a miscarriage.

  • Digestive stimulant: About an hour and a half before a meal, sip a glass of pineapple juice with a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of salt. It stimulates digestive enzymes and promotes hunger, especially helpful before a meat meal.
  • Constipation: Pineapple juice helps to relieve constipation.
  • Indigestion, nausea or diarrhea: Observe a fast and drink 1 cup of sweet pineapple juice with a pinch of ginger, black pepper and 2 teaspoons of organic sugar, 3 times a day.
  • Abdominal distention: Drink 1 cup of pineapple juice with a pinch of ajwan.
  • Intestinal worms: Eat 4 pieces of pineapple with a pinch of black pepper and rock salt, an hour after a meal, to help dissolve worms, yeast and amoeba.
  • Hemorrhoids: Apply warm pineapple pulp externally on the site of piles to relieve hemorrhoids.
  • Eczema: Rub fresh pineapple juice at the site of the lesion to stop severe itching from eczema.
  • Burning urination: Drink 1 glass of pineapple juice with 2 teaspoons of natural sugar or dextrose.
  • Nicotine toxicity: Chew small pieces of pineapple with 1/2 teaspoon of honey to help reduce smoking habits.
