Overview

Jarul is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for diabetes. Jarul, the Pride of India, is Ayurveda's leaf for Prameha. Lagerstroemin in the leaves mimics insulin; 1-2 tola decoction lowers sugar, bark checks loose stools.

How Jarul Helps with Diabetes

According to Ayurvedic pharmacology, Jarul has specific properties that make it valuable for addressing diabetes:

  • Potency (Virya): Sheeta (cold)
  • Post-digestive (Vipaka): Katu (pungent)
  • Taste (Rasa): Kashaya (astringent)
  • Qualities (Guna): Laghu (light), Ruksha (dry)

Safety & Precautions

Our classical sources list no specific contraindications for Jarul. The main practical caution follows from what it does.

Because the leaves lower blood sugar, combining Jarul with diabetes medication could push your sugar too low. Tell your doctor before adding it, and monitor your readings closely.

The bark is binding, so it is not suited to constipation. Never use Jarul in place of prescribed diabetes treatment.
