Date: Ayurvedic Properties and Uses
Date sugar is a good source of iron.
Healing Uses:
- Intestinal strength: Mix 5 fresh, chopped dates, 1 teaspoon of ghee and 2 pinches of black pepper. Eat in the early morning around 5:30 to 6:00 AM, then do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours. This increases the power of the intestines to absorb and assimilate food, binds the stool, improves muscle tone and nourishes the bones.
- Muscle pain: A poultice of date sugar is effective in healing a painful muscle.
- Anemia, sexual debility and chronic fatigue: Soak 10 fresh dates in a quart jar of ghee. Add 1 teaspoon of ginger, ½ teaspoon of cardamom and a pinch of saffron. Cover loosely and keep in a warm place for 1 week. Eat 1 date daily in the early morning.
- Pregnancy: The above ghee-soaked date formula is also good during pregnancy for morning sickness and anemia.
- Palpitations and chest pain: 2 dates mixed with 2 teaspoons of honey.
- Teething children: Give dried dates to chew on.
- Diarrhea during teething: Give the child ½ teaspoon date sugar mixed with 1 teaspoon honey, 2 or 3 times a day.
- Energy and vitality: Soak 5 fresh dates in a glass of water overnight, then liquefy in a blender and drink.
