Vyoshadi Kashaya
A fermented buttermilk-based decoction of Trikatu, Ajamoda, Punarnava, Ikshu moola, Mandoora, Haritaki, Bala and other herbs used for anemia.
Vyoshadi Kashaya — Overview
Vyoshadi Kashaya is a unique anti-anemic preparation for Pandu. Its ingredients include Trikatu (Vyosha), Ajamoda, Punarnava, Ikshu moola, Mandoora, Haritaki, Bala root, Chincha leaves, Purana Kittam, Jambeera, Haridra, Asthi Samhara and Hamsapadi.
Unlike a standard decoction, these drugs are cooked in equal parts of water and buttermilk in an earthenware vessel until the water portion fully evaporates. The vessel is then kept near the fire so the remaining decoction stays lukewarm. It is dosed at half a pala twice daily, replacing what is used with fresh buttermilk. The decoction keeps for seven days.
