Swasa-Kasahara Kashaya — Overview

Swasa-Kasahara Kashaya is a group of five decoction formulas for asthma (Swasa) and cough (Kasa). The first combines Dasamoola, Trikatu and Vasa (Vrisha), taken with honey, and also addresses vata-type cough and pains in the flanks, back, sacrum and head. The second uses Bala, Jeeraka, Sunthi, Mustha, Vasa, Bilwa, Devadaru, Prisniparni, Ikshu and Laja.

The third formula contains Kasamarda, Vartaka, Vasa and Bilwa; the fourth combines Bharangi, Pippali, Kasamarda, Haridra, Vasa, Guduchi, Sunthi and Dhanyaka, taken with Maricha powder for severe dyspnoea (Teevra Swasa). The fifth is built on Vidaryadi Gana drugs and acts as a cardiac tonic, nourishing agent and vata-pitta pacifier, useful in wasting (Sosha), abdominal mass (Gulma), body ache, upward-moving breath and cough.
