Sophahara Kashaya — Overview

Sophahara Kashaya is a decoction specifically formulated to reduce generalized edema and swelling (Sopha). The first formula combines Haritaki, Punarnava, Haridra, Pippali moola, Chitraka, Eranda, Mustha, Jeeraka, Devadaru and Pippali — all drugs with diuretic, deepana and anti-inflammatory actions.

The second formula uses Gokshura, Ardraka, Rakta Punarnava, Haritaki, Devadaru, Sunthi, Rasona and Ikshuraka. Both preparations aim to restore fluid balance and drain pathological accumulation while kindling digestive fire.
