Saraswata Ghrita — Overview

Saraswata Ghrita is an elaborate medhya-rasayana medicated ghee named after Saraswati, the goddess of learning. Its Kalka Dravya is Renuka, Vacha, Kushta, Pippali, Saindhava and Sarshapa. An extensive kashaya is prepared from Triphala, Lakshmana, Duralabha, Manjishta, Sariba, Vacha, Brahmi, Patha, the two Brihatis, the two Sthiras, the two Punarnavas, Sahadevi, Arka moola, Kshira Vidari and Kutaja. The ghee is cooked with cow's milk (2 prastha) and jala (2 drona). Uniquely, small pieces of gold are added during preparation, or the ghee may be taken with Swarna Bhasma.

It is used as pana (oral dose), abhyanga (external application) and with meals. It is indicated as Smriti & Medhakara (memory and intellect enhancer), Rakshoghna (warding off evil influences/psychiatric disturbances) and Vishaghna (anti-poison).
