Punarnavasava

Fermented preparation with Punarnava, Trikatu, Triphala and Gokshura used for edema, abdominal disorders and liver/spleen diseases.

Punarnavasava — Overview

Punarnavasava is a fermented Asava featuring Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa, listed as Sophaghna) along with Trikatu, Triphala, Daruharidra, Gokshura, Brihati dwaya, Vasa, Eranda moola, Katuki, Gajapippali, Nimba, Guduchi, Sushka Mulaka, Duralabha and Patola. These are fermented with Dhataki, Draksha, sugar, honey and water in an earthen pot for one month.

It is the classical Asava for edema (Sopha), abdominal disorders (Udara), splenomegaly (Pleeha), acid reflux (Amlapitta), liver disorders (Yakrit vikara), abdominal tumors (Gulma), fever (Jwara) and difficult-to-treat chronic diseases (Kricchrasadhya roga). Punarnava's diuretic and hepatoprotective action makes this a go-to remedy for cardio-renal and hepatic congestion.
