Pippalyadi Rasayana

A pippali-based electuary combining Pippali, Trikatu, Bharangi, Chitraka and Loha Bhasma used for asthma, cough, edema, anemia, and chronic fever.

Pippalyadi Rasayana — Overview

Pippalyadi Rasayana is a pippali-dominant electuary in which one prastha of Pippali churna forms the base. To this are added half a prastha of sugar along with Vidanga, Sunthi, Bharangi, Jeeraka and Maricha (4 pala each), Pippali moola and Chitraka (2 pala each), Loha Bhasma (2 pala), Bhringaraja (9 pala), and aromatic Trijataka, Triphala, Jatiphala and Takkola.

After preparing the Lehya paka, two prastha of honey is added and the confection is matured in a heap of grains for 15 days. It is indicated in asthma, cough, the eleven types of edema (Sopha), vomiting, abdominal tumors, anorexia, hemorrhoids, anemia, chronic fever, chronic rhinitis (Pinasa) and hoarseness of voice. The formula is traditionally credited to the Ashwini Kumaras, the celestial physicians.
