A group of decoctions for Mahodara (gross ascites/abdominal distension) and Jalodara.
Mahodarahara Kashaya — Overview
Mahodarahara Kashaya is used for Mahodara (severe abdominal distension and ascites). The first formula combines Haritaki, Puti Karanja, Sunthi, Chitraka, Pippali, Pippalimoola, Chavya, Ajagandha, Rakta Punarnava, Bilwa, Kulattha, castor, Sahachara, and Agnimandha — given with Yavakshara and Hingu. It treats hemorrhoids, splenomegaly, Gulma, low digestive fire, Ashtila, distension, and colic of Vata or Kapha origin along with Jalodara.
The second formula combines Dasamoola, Panchakola, Triphala, Danti, and Trivrit for ascites (Jalodara). The third combines Nagadanti, Trivrit, Triphala, Indravaruni, Snuhi, Tilvaka, Swarna-ksheeri, and Pippali — indicated in Udavarta (upward movement of wind) and Mahodara.
