Mahakushmanda Ghrita
An elaborate rasayana ghrita processed with ash gourd, multiple herbal juices, coconut water and goat milk; attributed to the Aswin twins and used for fever, cough, wasting, bleeding disorders, infertility and general rejuvenation.
Mahakushmanda Ghrita — Overview
Mahakushmanda Ghrita is an elaborate rasayana preparation. The Kalka includes Draksha, Dadima, Kharjura, Dhanya, Jeeraka, Chandana, Yashti, Trijataka, Mustha, Panchakola, Lavanga, Vidanga, Takkola, Padmaka, Usira, Balaka, Rajani, Triphala, Kushta, Sariba, Nagakesara, Kounthi, Yavani, Vasa, Maricha and Krishna Jeeraka. The liquid base is extraordinarily rich — fresh juices of Kushmanda, Vidari, Ikshu, Vasa, Dhatri, Rambha, Swadamshtra, Jivanthi, Vagigandha, Mahabala and Sariba (one prastha each), plus coconut water and goat's milk. After cooking, one prastha of honey is added before storage.
Attributed to the Aswin twins, its indications span Jwara (fever), Kasa (cough), Kshaya (wasting), Swasa (asthma), Vatarakta (gout), Visha dosha (toxicity), Raktapitta (bleeding disorders), Gulma, Asthi Srava, Pradara (menorrhagia), Mutrakricchra, Ashmari (stones), Pandu, Kamala (jaundice), Prameha, Pitta and Vata disorders. It is also prized as a Dhatu Vardhaka, Sukra Vardhaka, Vandhya nasaka (anti-infertility) and Garbha palaka (pregnancy-protective).
