Madanakameswari Lehya — Overview

Madanakameswari Lehya, also known as Chaturjatakadi Rasayana, is an elaborate aphrodisiac electuary containing over forty ingredients including Chaturjataka, Kachora, Chandana, Hribera, Draksha, Vamsalochana, Renuka, Kasturi, Tagara, Karpura, Kumkuma, Jatamamsi, Kushta, Ashwagandha, Mustha, Kakoli, Devadaru, Chitraka, Vacha, Jeeraka pair, Saindhava, Bharangi, Gokshura, Lavanga, Musali, Yashti, Bala, Samudraphena, Rambha kanda, Triphala, Trikatu, Jatiphala, Japatri, Talisa, Gajapippali, Masha, Guduchi, Atmagupta, Bhringaraja, Vidari, Dhattura seed, Nagadanti seed, Salmali, Punarnava, Aguru, Shatavari, and Ajamoda. Abhraka Bhasma and Bhanga are added at one-fourth the total, with sugar equal to the whole mass.

After preparation it is perfumed by keeping it in a heap of Jati, Champaka, and Ketaki flowers and finished with honey. The dose is about 6 g at bedtime with milk or Salmali-root decoction. It acts as Vajeekara and Sukrala (aphrodisiac, spermatogenic), a Rasayana, and is indicated in wasting (Kshaya), asthma (Swasa), cough (Kasa), hemorrhoids (Arshas), and diarrhea (Atisara).
