Kushtantaka Taila
A mercurial medicated oil formulated by Atreya for treating all varieties of skin diseases, used both internally and externally.
Kushtantaka Taila — Overview
Kushtantaka Taila, formulated by Maharshi Atreya, is a mercurial medicated oil. The kalka includes rasa (parada, 5 tola), trikantha (suryakantha, chandrakantha, ayaskantha — 5 tola each), and gandhaka (24 tola); kajjali is first prepared and then combined with nagavalli juice. Tila taila (1 prastha) is the base, and a chaturdha-avasishta kashaya from 32 pala bakuchi bija in 1 drona of water is the drava dravya.
After preparation, the oil is kept in a heap of grains for one month. It is then administered internally with kalka early in the morning; during treatment the patient takes only a milk diet, avoids exercise, and maintains mental calm. It may be used internally as well as externally and is indicated in Sarva Kushta — all varieties of skin diseases.
