Dhatryarishta
Fermented preparation from Amalaki (Dhatri) fruit juice used for anemia, heart disease, gout and respiratory disorders.
Dhatryarishta — Overview
Dhatryarishta is prepared from 2000 fresh Amalaki (Dhatri) fruits expressed for juice, fermented directly with honey (one-eighth of the juice), Pippali and sugar in a ghee-anointed earthen pot sealed and buried for one month. Unlike most Arishtas, it uses fresh fruit juice rather than a boiled decoction.
It is a rejuvenative fermented tonic indicated for anemia (Pandu), heart disease (Hridroga), gout (Vatarakta), intermittent fever (Vishama Jwara), cough (Kasa), hiccup (Hicca), anorexia (Aruchi) and asthma (Swasa). Amalaki provides vitamin C rich rasayana action, while the fermentation enhances palatability and bioavailability.
