Dhanvantara Taila — Overview

Dhanvantara Taila is one of the most celebrated classical medicated sesame oils in Ayurveda, named after the divine physician Dhanvantari. Its kalka combines an elaborate group of herbs including Meda, Mahameda, Devadaru, Manjishta, Kakoli, Ksheera Kakoli, Chandana, Sariba, Kushta, Tagara, Jivaka, Rishabhaka, Saindhava, Krishna Sariba, Saileya, Vacha, Aguru, Punarnava, Aswagandha, Satavari, Vidari kanda, Yashti, Triphala, Satahwa, Mashaparni, Ela, Twak and Patri.

The oil is processed with Bala root decoction, cow's milk and a decoction of Yava, Kola, Kuluttha and Dasamoola. It is indicated for all vata disorders, postpartum (Sutika) care, pediatric disorders, marma injuries, fractures, fever, abdominal masses, seizures, insanity, urinary retention, hernia, gynecological disorders and wasting.
