Ashokarishta
A fermented decoction of Ashoka bark with jaggery, Dhataki, Ajaji, Sunthi, Phala trika and other herbs, used primarily for menorrhagia and female reproductive disorders.
Ashokarishta — Overview
Ashokarishta is the best-known classical fermented remedy for female reproductive disorders. It is prepared by boiling 100 pala of Ashoka bark in 4 drona of water until reduced to one-fourth. After cooling, 200 pala of Guda, 16 pala of Dhataki, and one pala each of Ajaji, Mustha, Sunthi, Daru, Utpala, Phala trika, Amrasthi, Jeeraka, Vasa and Chandana are added.
The preparation is sealed in earthenware, buried for one month, then filtered. It is indicated for Asrigdara (menorrhagia), Jwara (fever), Raktapitta (bleeding disorders), Arshas (hemorrhoids), Agnimandya (low digestive fire), Aruchi (anorexia), Meha (urinary disorders) and Sosha (emaciation).
