Abhayarishta

A fermented tonic made from Abhaya (Haritaki), Mridwika and Vidanga decoction with jaggery and digestive herbs, used for hemorrhoids, abdominal disorders and constipation.

Abhayarishta — Overview

Abhayarishta is a fermented laxative-tonic prepared from 100 pala of Abhaya (Haritaki), 50 pala of Mridwika (Draksha) and 10 pala of Vidanga boiled in 4 drona of water and reduced to one-fourth. After cooling, 100 pala of Guda and 2 pala each of Swadamshtra, Trivrit, Dhanya, Dhataki, Indravaruni, Chavya, Madhurika, Sunthi, Danti and Mocharasa are added.

It is sealed in earthenware, fermented underground for one month, then filtered and preserved. It is indicated for Arshas (hemorrhoids), Udara (abdominal disorders), Malamootra bandha (constipation and urinary retention) and acts as Agni Deepaka (appetizer).
