Vata-Pacifying Diet
Dietary guidelines that reduce Vata dosha through warming, grounding, and moistening foods including most spices and sweeteners.
Vata Food Guidelines
Vata is balanced by warm, moist, grounding, and cooked foods. Favored fruits include sweet fruits like bananas, berries, cherries, grapes, lemons, sweet melons, oranges, peaches, pineapple, plums, soaked prunes, and raisins. Dried fruits, raw apples, and pears should generally be avoided.
Most cooked vegetables are good for Vata, including asparagus, beets, carrots, cucumber, green beans, parsnips, cooked peas, sweet potato, pumpkin, and zucchini. Avoid raw, dried, or frozen vegetables, especially broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, raw onions, white potato, and raw tomatoes.
Suitable grains include cooked oats, quinoa, rice (basmati, brown, white, wild), and wheat. Dairy is generally well-tolerated. Red lentils, mung beans, soy cheese, and tofu are the easiest legumes. Most nuts in moderation and warming oils like ghee, sesame, and olive support Vata balance.
