Honey
Sweet and astringent substance that creates heat in the body, excellent blood purifier, good for eyes and teeth, carries medicinal properties of herbs to tissues
Honey — Incompatible Combinations and Cooking Warning
Do not eat honey:
- Mixed with an equal amount of ghee by weight
- Boiled or cooked in any form
Ghee is cooling but honey is heating, and they have different post-digestive effects. However, mixing by weight two parts ghee and one part honey is not toxic, due to prabhav.
Important: Honey should never be cooked. If cooked, the molecules become a non-homogenized glue which adheres to mucous membranes and clogs subtle channels, producing toxins. Uncooked honey is nectar; cooked honey is poison.

Properties and Uses
Honey creates heat in the body; therefore it acts to reduce vata and kapha. Its taste is sweet and astringent. Honey is good for healing internal and external ulcers. Like ghee, honey carries the medicinal properties of herbs to the bodily tissues and is, therefore, used as a medium for many substances.
Honey is an excellent blood purifier and is also good for the eyes and teeth. It alleviates cold, cough and congestion. When used to dress an external wound, it will help the healing process.
Honey and water together energize the body and help to flush the kidneys. If taken in moderation, it reduces fat.
Caution: Honey should not be cooked because cooking alters its attributes and makes it incompatible with the body. Heated honey can clog the digestive tract and create toxins.
