Qualitative Derangement of Fat Tissue (Meda Dushti)

Meda dushti occurs when meda dhatu is qualitatively deranged. A person may develop an enlarged spleen, constant low backache, or difficulty putting on weight. The spleen becomes enlarged because meda agni is low, which affects the agni of the spleen. When there is meda dhatu dushti and the spleen is enlarged, the liver also tends to be enlarged due to fatty degeneration.

Sleep disorders are also associated with meda dushti. Some people feel sleepy while walking or driving, or sleep excessively during the day. Their metabolism is slow and agni is low, so sadhaka pitta does not maintain awareness. Taking trikatu churna (ginger, black pepper, long pepper) with honey can correct this type of sleep disorder. Another complication is the deposition of fat on blood vessels, potentially creating arteriosclerosis or atheroma.
