Constitutional Exercise

Exercise calibrated to one's prakruti — strenuous for kapha, moderate for pitta, gentle for vata.

Exercise According to Constitution

Ayurveda teaches that exercise must be matched to one's prakruti. Kapha individuals can perform the most strenuous exercise, pitta types benefit from a moderate amount, and vata constitutions need only a small amount of gentle movement. Walking, swimming, and yoga are well suited to all three constitutions.

Adequate, appropriate exercise stimulates the gastric fire, improves digestion, relieves constipation, and induces relaxation and sound sleep — but exercising beyond one's capacity depletes ojas and disturbs the doshas.
