The Doshic Clock of Day, Life, Digestion, and Season

The body's biological clock is regulated by the three doshas, and they govern not only the hours of the day but also the stages of life, the phases of digestion, and the seasons. Kapha rules the early morning and early evening hours, pitta governs midday and midnight, and vata predominates at dawn and dusk. The same pattern repeats across a lifetime: kapha rules early childhood, pitta governs puberty through middle age, and vata becomes predominant in later years.

Digestion likewise unfolds in three phases — first kapha, then pitta, then vata — and each season belongs to one of the doshas. Health flows naturally from acting with awareness to do the right thing at the right time, so that one's doshas remain in harmony with these larger rhythms.
