Dhatu Poshana Nyaya
Three principles governing tissue nutrition: kedara kulya nyaya (irrigation), khale kapota nyaya (selectivity), and kshira dadhi nyaya (transformation).
The Three Laws Governing Tissue Nutrition
Nutrition of the tissues in Ayurveda is called dhatu poshanam, and three laws govern how nourishment reaches and transforms the dhatus. The first law is kedara kulya nyaya, the law of irrigation, which likens tissue nourishment to water flowing through a system of channels to irrigate fields. The second law is khale kapota nyaya, the law of selectivity, comparing tissue nourishment to pigeons in a granary who selectively pick out grains they need. The third law is kshira dadhi nyaya, the law of transformation, comparing nutrition to milk transforming into curd.
