Liberated Mind

The highest state of mind representing liberation and cosmic consciousness, the ultimate goal of human life according to Ayurveda.

The Liberated Mind

Mukta is the liberated state of mind, the ultimate goal of human life. Each person is born to become mukta — it does not matter how much wealth or education one has, for without a mukta state of mind it is all meaningless. The mukta mind is focused and masterful, arising when the true self (pure soul) assumes its rightful position as master of the mind rather than servant.

Mukta may superficially resemble mudha (the deluded mind), but the distinction is profound. Mudha mind is driven by inferior goals — sex, power, prestige, and position — while mukta mind has profound and superior goals of liberation. Only a liberated person can truly understand the liberated mind. When the master (pure awareness) is present, the mind becomes focused and mukta; when absent, the mind rules and creates madness and unfocused activity.
