Kalala
The fertilized ovum, literally 'the first expression of creation,' containing maternal and paternal ojas, tejas, and prana.
The First Expression of Creation
The fertilized ovum is called kalala, which in Sanskrit means 'the first expression of creation.' Kali means bud and kala means time, movement, and order; in pregnancy the kala is approximately nine months and nine days. Kalala is the primordial expression of prakruti, the union of male and female, and represents potential creativity.
Within the fertilized ovum there are maternal and paternal ojas, tejas, and prana. Prana divides the kalala, tejas maintains its integrity, and ojas maintains its immunity. All of this happens at the subtle level of a bija, or seed. Just as the entire tree is present in its seed, the whole person is present in the human seed.
