The Five Sensory Faculties

The five jnanendriya (sensory faculties) are the pathways of perception formed from the interaction of sattva and rajas as part of the organic universe. They are: hearing, touch, vision, taste, and smell. Each sensory faculty corresponds to one of the five tanmatras and its associated element — hearing to sound/Ether, touch to touch/Air, vision to form/Fire, taste to taste/Water, and smell to odor/Earth.
