Fifteen Doshic Fires
Fifteen agnis corresponding to each dosha subtype, located at their respective sites; for example, ranjaka agni processes hemoglobin and forms bile.
Dosha Agni — Agni in Dosha Subtypes
The agni concept is so comprehensive that even the subtypes of the doshas have their own agni components. Vata has prana agni, vyana agni, udana agni, samana agni, and apana agni. Pitta has pachaka agni, ranjaka agni, sadhaka agni, alochaka agni, and bhrajaka agni. Kapha has kledaka agni, avalambaka agni, bodhaka agni, tarpaka agni, and shleshaka agni.
The bhuta agnis from the liver maintain the functional aspects of each dosha through these agni components. The five elemental agnis correspond to specific subdoshas based on their elemental nature:
- Nabhasa (Ether) agni governs prana vayu, sadhaka pitta, and tarpaka kapha
- Vayavya (Air) agni nourishes udana vayu, alochaka pitta, and avalambaka kapha
- Tejo (Fire) agni controls samana vayu, pachaka pitta, and kledaka kapha
- Apo (Water) agni governs vyana vayu, ranjaka pitta, and bodhaka kapha
- Parthiva (Earth) agni nourishes apana vayu, bhrajaka pitta, and shleshaka kapha
