Tissue Formation Timeline

The sequential timeline of tissue formation from ahara rasa through all seven dhatus, taking approximately 35 days to complete.

Sequential Timeline of Dhatu Formation

In the formation of tissues, ahara rasa (the nutritive juice) is formed within 12 hours after the ingestion of nutrients. From ahara rasa, the seven dhatus form sequentially:

  • Sthayi Rasa (plasma) — formed within 5 days
  • Sthayi Rakta (blood) — formed in 10 days
  • Mamsa (muscle) — formed in 15 days
  • Meda (fat) — formed in 20 days
  • Asthi (bone) — formed in 25 days
  • Majja (marrow/nerve) — formed in 30 days
  • Shukra/Artava (reproductive tissue) — formed in approximately 35 days

This timeline demonstrates that the reproductive tissue, being the last dhatu to form, requires the longest period of nourishment. The quality of all preceding dhatus influences the quality of shukra and artava, which is why reproductive health in Ayurveda is considered a reflection of overall systemic health.
