Periosteum
The membranous covering of bone rich in lymphoid tissue where unprocessed asthi dhatu is transformed into processed asthi dhatu by asthi agni.
Asthi Dhara Kala: The Periosteum
Asthi dhara kala is the membranous structure (kala) that serves as the outer covering of bone. It is rich in lymphoid tissue and specialized plasma. Purisha dhara kala in the colon absorbs minerals and directs them to the periosteum, providing the raw materials for bone formation.
Within the periosteum, unprocessed asthi dhatu and asthi agni coexist. The agni transforms the unprocessed asthi into processed bone tissue. This membrane is where the critical transformation from meda-derived nutrients into dense bone tissue takes place over a 25-day cycle.
