Asthayi Dhatu

The unstable, nutritive precursor form of each bodily tissue, nourished directly from the six stages of digestion within 6 to 12 hours of eating.

Immature vs. Mature Tissue Nourishment

The six stages of digestion nourish the asthayi dhatus (immature tissues) within 6 to 12 hours of eating a meal. However, cellular-level nutrition in the sthayi dhatus (mature, stable tissues) takes much longer — approximately five days per dhatu. This means sthayi rasa dhatu is fully nourished five days after eating, while sthayi shukra, the seventh and final tissue, requires 35 days to receive full nourishment from a given meal.
