Overview

Benzoin is one of the herbs traditionally used in Ayurveda for parasites and worms. Lodhrasara (Benzoin) is a balsamic resin obtained from Styrax benzoin. Two types are described in the text. It is primarily used as an aromatic fumigant and in respiratory conditions. The resin has expectorant and antiseptic properties. It is used in cough preparations and as a preservative in pharmaceutical formulations. The resin is available in different grades based on purity and origin.
