Vatahara Kashaya
A group of six Vata-pacifying decoctions indicated for frozen shoulder, gout, vata disorders and related musculoskeletal pain.
Vatahara Kashaya (formula 59) — Overview
Vatahara Kashaya (formulation 59) is a set of six decoctions targeting different presentations of Vata disorders. The first formula (Prasarini, Masha, Bala, Rasona, Rasna, Sunthi with milk) is indicated for Vatavikara and Apabahuka (frozen shoulder). The second (Sahachara, Devadaru, Sunthi with sesame oil) helps patients regain ability to walk and speak in Vataroga.
The third formula (Rasona, Krishna Jeeraka, Pippali, Saliparni) acts as a Vatanulomaka (downward-regulator of Vata). The fourth uses Eranda, Puti Karanja, Chitraka, Sunthi, Haritaki, Punarnava, Yavasa and Musali with rock salt and jaggery — acting as Vatahara, Agnideepaka, Aruchinasaka and Malasodhaka. The fifth is a Ksheerapaka with Brihat Panchamoola for Vatarakta. The sixth, a polyherbal decoction of Rasna, Eranda, Bala, Sahachara, Duhsparsa, Vasa, Guduchi, Devadaru, Ativisha, Mustha, Ikshuraka, Kachora and Sunthi given with ghee and sesame oil, treats Vataroga affecting the thigh, hip, sacrum, back, flank, jaw, as well as Vataja Sopha and Vatarakta.
