Pachana Kashaya

A digestive decoction with Mustha, Chandana, Sunthi, Hribera, Parpataka and Usira used to digest ama, reduce fever and relieve excessive thirst.

Pachana Kashaya — Overview

Pachana Kashaya is a classical digestive decoction listed as the opening formula of the Kashaya Prakarana in Sahasra Yoga. It combines Mustha (Cyperus rotundus), Chandana (sandalwood), Sunthi (dry ginger), Hribera, Parpataka and Usira (vetiver), each taken in one karsha (about 12 g), boiled in one prastha (768 ml) of water until reduced by half.

It is traditionally used to digest ama (undigested metabolic residue), calm fever and relieve excessive thirst. The same combination appears in the Sarangadhara Samhita under the name Shadanga Panam.
