Neelakantha Rasa

A classical mercurial pill attributed to Lord Brahma, used in asthma, cough, wasting, fever and urinary disorders.

Neelakantha Rasa — Overview

Neelakantha Rasa is a classical mercurial formulation traditionally attributed to Lord Brahma. It is used in a broad spectrum of conditions: asthma, cough, wasting (Kshaya), abdominal tumors (Gulma), urinary/diabetic disorders (Prameha), intermittent fever (Vishama Jwara), hiccups, malabsorption (Grahani), edema, anemia, fistula (Bhagandhara), difficult urination, fetal complications (Mudhagarbha), and neurological/joint disorders.

It contains Sutam (Parada), Gandhaka, Loha, Visha (Vatsanabhi), Chitraka, Patraka (Tejapatra), Vidanga, Renuka, Mustha, Ela, Tankana, Nagakesara, Trikatu, Triphala, and Sulba (Tamra) Bhasma — one part each, with Guda (jaggery) at double the combined weight. The pills are the size of Chana (chickpea) and administered with water. The same formulation is also cited in Brihannighanturatnakara and Rasendrasarasangraha.
