Manasamitra Vatika — Overview
Manasamitra Vatika is one of the most elaborate neuro-psychiatric formulations in classical Ayurveda. Its contents include Bala, Naga Bala, Bilwa, Prisniparni, Pravala, Sankhapushpi, Kukundara, Swarna, Pushkaramoola, Mriga sringa, Vacha, Swarnamakshika, Sweta and Rakta Chandana, Mouktika, Loha Bhasma, Yashtimadhu, Pippali, Karpura, Elavaluka, Nirgundi, Mustha, Rasna, Rajata, Shilajatu, Gojihwa, Padmakesara, Jivaka, Rishabhaka, Kakoli, Brihati, Mundi, Bhunimba, Aragwadha, Guduchi, two types of Sariba, Jivanti, Somavalli, Ashwagandha, Haridra, Usira, Draksha, Riddhi, Vriddhi, Durva, Hamsapadi, Katphala, Lavanga, Tulasi, Kasturi and Kesara.
The powdered drugs are triturated successively with ten different liquids — Trayantika Swarasa, Sankhapushpi Kashaya, Vacha Kashaya, Ananta Kashaya, Lakshmana Kashaya, Bilwa Kashaya, Bala moola Kashaya, cow's milk, Somavalli Swarasa and breast milk — dried in shade and administered with cow's milk. It acts as Sarva Manodosha hara (removes all disorders of the mind), enhances intellect (Buddhi), memory (Medha), brilliance (Pratibha), speech (Vaksakthi) and poetic faculty (Kavyasakthi), and is a powerful destroyer of severe insanity (Prabala Unmada).
