Kushmanda Ghrita
Medicated ghee prepared with ash gourd (Kushmanda), milk and sugarcane juice, indicated in wasting diseases (especially Pittaja Kshaya), abdominal tumors, and chronic fever.
Kushmanda Ghrita — Overview
Kushmanda Ghrita takes its name from the ash gourd (Kushmanda/Benincasa hispida), 100 pala of which is boiled in 1 drona of water and reduced to one fourth to make the Kashaya. The paste combines Jivanthi, Mudgaparni, Mustha, Parpataka, Rasna, Sunthi, Bharangi, Pippali, Madhuyashti, Saindhava, Pippali moola, Chitraka and Hasti Pippali. Four prastha of cow's milk and sugarcane juice are added to one prastha of ghee.
It is indicated in Sarva Kshaya — all forms of wasting, especially Pittaja Kshaya — along with Gulma, Vishamajwara (intermittent/chronic fever), and acts as a Varnya (complexion-enhancing) and Balya (strength-promoting) tonic.
