Bharangyadi Lehya

Bharangi-based electuary for chronic cough, asthma, tuberculosis, hiccup, and chronic fever.

Bharangyadi Lehya — Overview

Bharangyadi Lehya is prepared by first making a Chaturdhavasishta (one-fourth reduced) decoction of Bharangi, Vasa, and Kantakari (50 pala each) in 100 pala of water, and a second decoction from the meat of four bats in one Adhaka of water. The two decoctions are combined, cooked with one Prastha of sugar to Lehya consistency, and finished with a prakshepa of Bharangi, Vacha, Gokshura, Twak, Ela, Patra, Jeeraka, Yavani, Ajamoda, Vamsalochana, Kulattha, Katphala, Pushkaramoola, and Karkatakasringa.

It is indicated in the five types of cough (Kasa), asthma (Swasa), tuberculosis (Yakshma), hiccup (Hicca), and chronic fever (Jeerna Jwara), and acts as a strength-giver (Bala), nutritive (Pushtikaraka), and digestive stimulant (Agni Vardhaka).
